    CarMax: Web Site Visits Increase Nearly 30 Percent

    RICHMOND, Va. (April 5, 2006)

    CarMax executives announced they have experienced a nearly 30-percent increase in visits to carmax.com in the past year. Specifically, there were an estimated 41 million visits to the company's Web site, as compared to approximately 32 million in the prior fiscal year.

    Additionally, executives highlighted the fact that carmax.com reached its 1-million visits milestone within a week in mid-March.

    "We offer consumers quick and easy online access to a huge selection of high-quality vehicles, all browsable from the comfort of home," said Austin Ligon, president and chief executive officer of CarMax. "As we have expanded geographically and as awareness of CarMax has grown, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people logging onto our Web site."

    According to CarMax customer satisfaction surveys, 45 percent of customers who purchased a vehicle from the company in the latest fiscal year indicated that the carmax.com Web site was the most important source of information in their decision to visit a CarMax superstore.

    Building off the company's online momentum, executives said they are improving the Web site.

    "We are currently implementing several enhancements to carmax.com to make vehicle searches even easier for consumers," Ligon said.

    Upgrades already completed or in process include:
    -- The addition of multiple photos to improve online viewing of vehicles;
    -- Expansion and update of the car search engine to provide enhanced search, browse and sorting capabilities;
    -- Redesign of the home page to make the Web site more user-friendly and easier for consumers to navigate;
    -- The addition of Google maps and directions to make locating CarMax superstores easier; and
    -- The addition of new Community and About Us Web pages that provide the CarMax story, car care advice from CarMax's ASE-master technicians and other car-related information.
